Reticulated RF foam absorber solutions from 4.0 – 100+ GHz

AF Series Reticulated Overview
Reticulated foam absorbers solve a specific problem that lossy foam can’t: minimizing front-face reflection across very broad frequency ranges, particularly above 10 GHz. The mechanism is impedance matching. The front face of a reticulated absorber is loaded lightly enough to approximate the impedance of free space (377 ohms), so an incoming wave enters with minimal reflection. Inside the foam, the carbon loading increases progressively toward the back, scattering and absorbing the wave through the open-cell structure as it travels deeper. A conductive backing is mandatory. Without it, the wave passes through and reflects off whatever is behind the foam, defeating the design.
The AF Series Reticulated Foam is most commonly deployed in anechoic chamber linings, mmWave antenna pattern measurement environments, RCS (radar cross-section) measurement setups, automotive radar test fixtures (24 GHz K-band and 77/79 GHz W-band), and any high-frequency anechoic application requiring low reflection across the 4 to 100+ GHz range. Engineers selecting reticulated absorbers should verify mounting on a metal surface during evaluation. Testing on a non-conductive bench will produce misleading results.
The AF Series Reticulated Foam is available in five thicknesses: 0.375″, 0.500″, 0.750″, 1.000″, and 1.250″. Thicker foams extend low-frequency performance further down toward the 4 GHz design floor. Thinner variants suit higher-frequency applications above 18 GHz where shorter wavelengths require less material depth. Custom shapes and dimensions are available through in-house die-cutting and fabrication.
